T1D Education & Empowerment
Empowering those living with Type 1 Diabetes to live healthier, fuller lives
We believe those living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) in South-East Asia should not only survive, but thrive. This is only possible if people have the right education about their condition, are empowered to live it out, and eventually to advocate for their T1D comunity
A4D closes the gaps in this area through our Hello Type 1 (online and offline activities), and ASPIRE programmes
HelloType1: Online
If someone does not understand their T1D, then they will not be able to manage it. Hello Type 1 makes T1D information easy to access online in local languages and offers:
-
Support for People living with T1D
-
Support for Caregivers
-
Support for HCPs
Hello Type 1 is the first digital education platform designed to make medical advice about managing T1D accessible in South-East Asian languages. Topics covered are related to basic T1D management, nutrition, exercise and psycho-social effects of living with T1D.
Launched first in Cambodia in July 2020, HelloType1 is now digitally available in English, Khmer, Vietnamese, Thai, Bahasa Malaysia, Burmese. Tagalog and Bahasa Indonesia. We also have relevant Facebook community pages and TikTok channels in local language.

HelloType1: Offline
Living with Type 1 Diabetes can be difficult, especially in countries where awareness and understanding of the condition is low. A4D endeavours to close this gap through our HelloType1 Offline activites: T1D Camps and Peer to Peer Initiatives.
T1D Camps
Since 2016, A4D T1D Camps foster a community among young people with T1D and their families.
-
40+ T1D Camps
-
2000+ Participants
-
7 Countries
Three young girls met in A4D's T1D Camp in Mandalay. They were different ages, had different hobbies and went to different schools, but they had one thing in common: Type 1 Diabetes. Today they find support in this shared journey.
Peer to Peer Initiatives
We started this in 2024 and were designed to be smaller scale but more run more often in each country. These activities bring together a small group of 10 - 20 T1Ds to do an activity such as hiking, cycling, painting, visiting food markets or even watching a movie. These Peer-to-Peer initiatives have opened up new ways for practical T1D education and community support.
